Global Film Club: Mini Global Film Festival 11/18-11/20

The First Mini Global Film Festival at George Mason University: three days, films from all over the world.

Wednesday 11/18 The Creators: Artists in South Africa JCC 6pm. 

The documentary focuses on different types of art-- including  break dancing and inspirational music -- and follows six artists who are sculpting South Africa's future from the fragments of a tumultuous past. Born in different areas of the formerly segregated country, the artists separately re-craft history in their own artistic languages.
 

Thursday 11/19 Short Film Showcase JC Rm D 7:30pm and Bye, Bye Barcelona (Eduardo Chibás Fernández 2014) at 8:30pm.

The documentary Bye Bye Barcelona looks at how tourism and commercialization are ruining the city of Barcelona and turning it into a "theme park." Residents, tour guides and local tourism experts have spoken out against uncontrolled tourism, claiming it is destroying their city and community. Friday 11/20 Short Film Showcase JC Rm D 5pm and No Man's Land (Danis Tanović 2001) 6pm.

Set in Bosnia and Herzegovina during 1993 at the time of the heaviest fighting between the two warring sides, the film focuses on two soldiers from opposing sides in the conflict, Nino and Ciki, who become trapped in no man's land, while a third soldier becomes a living booby trap. (See trailer here).
