Cynthia Fuchs (PhD, University of Pennsylvania, 1989) is an Associate Professor of English, African American Studies (AFAM), and Film & Video Studies (FAVS) at George Mason University. She is director of Film & Media Studies (FAMS). She is a film reviewer for Philadelphia Citypaper (since 1986), and NPR. She is the film and TV editor for the weekly cultural studies magazine, PopMatters (since 1999). She also writes for Screenit and Flow TV. She has published articles on hip-hop, Bully and George Washington, media coverage of the war against Iraq, Buffy and Dark Angel; Shakira; Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise; Jay-Z's videos; Gollum in Lord of the Rings; Taxi Driver; Prince; Michael Jackson; the Spice Girls; and cyborgs in movies. She edited Spike Lee: Interviews (U of Mississippi P, 2002), and co-edited Between the Sheets, In the Streets: Queer, Lesbian, and Gay Documentary (U of Minnesota P, 1997). She has a forthcoming book on post-9/11 war documentaries, and forthcoming articles on Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent's masculine image, and hip-hop and the NBA.Email:
