Jennifer Atkinson

Associate Professor

Jennifer Atkinson received a B.A. in English from Wesleyan University, an M.F.A. in poetry writing, and an M.A. in creative nonfiction from the University of Iowa. She is the author of three collections of poetry ---The Dogwood Tree, which won the University of Alabama Poetry Prize, The Drowned City, winner of the Samuel French Morse Prize, and Drift Ice, just released in the summer of 2008. Her poetry and nonfiction can be seen in Poetry, Field, The Yale Review, The New England Review, Threepenny Review, Shenandoah, The Iowa Review, Image, and elsewhere. Both her poetry and her nonfiction have been honored with Pushcart Prizes. She taught in Nepal and Japan and at the University of Iowa and Washington University before joining the faculty of George Mason University, where she usually teaches Creative Writing, Poetry Writing (at the graduate and undergraduate levels), and recent and contemporary American poetry.
