Section Information for Fall 2017
In this discussion-based course, we will practice advanced historical skills by studying the growing and varied scholarship on the history of American sexuality, beginning with European conquest of North America and ending at the turn of the twenty-first century.
We will start by asking, how do we make history of sex? Then, through a chronological and thematic survey, we will examine how sexual behaviors and attitudes have changed over time. To explore such a broad and wide-ranging topic, the course is organized around two general questions that are of particular interest to historians of sexuality:
