We will cover key texts in cultural theory, address the history of cultural studies, and consider the relevance of such texts to cultural objects from the past and present. Looking at film and other forms of visual culture from around the world, this course addresses culture’s relationship to power and its role in the production of identities, spaces, and histories. Key concerns include: globalization and migration, violence and resistance, and the struggle for access to the production and circulation of cultural texts.
