Music Theater Building 1002
Section Information for Spring 2020
This craft course is designed to help the student realize the power of writing in scene. Discussions will focus on what exactly “scene” means, not just in fiction, but in other narrative forms like films; when is it best to write in scene; how do single scene stories work; how many scenes should a chapter or a novel have? We will look at the structural uses of scene—how to use them as building blocks in a novel, and how to use them to develop character, theme, setting, plot, etc. At the end of the class students will work on their own single scene stories, and for final submission they are expected to work on multiple scene stories.
