Section Information for Spring 2013
We’ll launch the semester with a month of intensive reading of contemporary poetic sequences, and a little theoretical discussion. Given that there are hundreds sequences to choose from, I have focused the list on themes of family, place, immigration, history, and elegy, and on the modes of lyric, collage, investigative poetics, and erasure. Assigned readings may be modified in response to class members’ interests and projects, but you should expect to read in modes that may be unfamiliar, as well. The rest of our time will be workshop. Unless you are in your third year and have a large project underway, you should plan to work on two sequences during the semester. We will also practice some daily writing and/or renga, to lighten our spirits. No analytic writing will be assigned, but all will be expected to take an active role in discussion of our reading early in the semester. The course wiki with reading list will be finalized in January. Preliminary reading list available from the instructor.View 2 Other Sections of this Course in this Semester »
