Job Opportunities - EPA
On Thursday, September 18 at noon, the Environmental Protection Agency will be on campus at George Mason to present information about its Student Career Experience Program (SCEP). SCEP is a special internship designed to provide students currently enrolled in a degree program with paid work experience that compliments their academic program, and to introduce them to Federal government career opportunities. Upon completion of the required number of work hours (generally 640 hours before graduation), and graduation, students become eligible for direct hire into the Federal government for the type of position for which they have trained.
The Information Session about SCEP opportunities will be held in SUBI, Room 348. The Information Session is open to all interested students and faculty. Students may apply for the positions at the Information Session by providing their resumes or through posting their application through the Patriot JobWeb. For additional information, students may email me at miller.roberta@epa.gov. Please have your students include a resume and a cover letter directed to the position(s) that he/she is interested in. More information is available on the EPA website at:

Requirements for SCEP are:
During the past 6 years that EPA has sponsored opportunities in this program, nearly 120 students have participated in this program. All participants have exceeded the academic requirements of the program. We pride ourselves in the ethnic and geographic diversity as well as the high quality of our applicants. We select the institutions where we recruit based on the high quality of potential candidates. To date, over 65% of our participating students have received offers of permanent employment with the Agency upon graduation and an additional 22% received offers from other Federal agencies. We expect this percentage to increase as more and more of the participants graduate and as more parts of EPA adopt this program.
I have attached job announcements that are applicable to your students. We are looking for students at all academic levels and in all disciplines. I would appreciate your publicizing this opportunity EPA is offering through our on-campus visit to your students.
The opportunities are located in EPA Headquarters in Washington, DC or in our environmental forensics lab in Denver, CO. Students selected may be able to start work as soon as selected or possibly this coming summer.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at (202) 564-4116 or at miller.roberta@epa.gov if you have questions. I look forward to working with you to provide opportunities here at EPA for your outstanding students.
