Located 16 miles from Washington, D.C., with its theaters, museums, and cultural opportunities, George Mason is an ideal place to pursue graduate studies in English. We offer degree programs in creative writing, literature, professional writing and editing, the teaching of writing and literature, and linguistics. For those who do not want a formal degree, we also offer two certificate programs.
Our MFA faculty is comprised of internationally recognized writers, and our graduates have published with both major and small presses and in national commercial and literary magazines. Our MA faculty are all active and engaged scholars and writers who publish regularly: they are passionate about their fields and are eager to share that passion and their expertise with students.
Our MA graduates have gone on to complete further graduate work both at George Mason and elsewhere; to careers in teaching at every level from K through university; and to rewarding careers in the public and private sectors.
