The James L. Jackson Prize honors James L. Jackson, a Shakespeare scholar and former chair of the George Mason University English department. Professor Jackson was a generous and devoted teacher of undergraduates. Accordingly, the award provides $1,000 in funds, generously provided by an anonymous donor, to support the education at George Mason of an undergraduate major in English of exceptional merit. Sven Eric Molin Critical Essay Award honors Eric Molin, a professor of eighteenth century-studies, a devoted teacher of writing, and an authority on the writing and life of British novelist and essayist T. H. White. A discriminating and sympathetic judge of the writing of students as well as that of his colleagues in the English Department, Molin willed to the department funds to reward a student who produced an especially able essay on literature. The Cynthia Wynn Herman Scholarship honors a returning female student, over the age of 25, who has interests in English and Woman's Studies. The scholarship honors Cynthia Wynn Herman, who received her BA and MA in English from George Mason and was also very active in the Mason Woman's Studies Program and was a writing tutor, TA, and an instructor in the Mason English Department.
