Kathleen Strylowski’s presentation, “Framing Frames: Reconstructing Lost Truth in Fun Home," focuses on the role of family photographs in Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic novel. Drawing on modernist and postmodernist theories of photography, as well as her own correspondence with the author, Strylowski argues that Fun Home questions the truth-status of these photographs and demonstrates the ways in which they are sites of power, performance, and death.
