"Twas brilling and the slithy toves...

All poems and one prose piece of Edward Lear (1812-1888), four great books by Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) [we omit Sylvie Bruno Concluded], a lecture of logical positivism, and a sprinkling of some works not thought to be nonsense (The Importance of Being Earnest, Tender Buttons, Finnegans Wake [selections], At Swim-Two-Birds, some obscure and brilliant nonsense plays by Ring Lardner, some theory because nonsense leads there naturally. Also Victorian context and some looking at paintings and photographs.

That is is In a nutshell. Fun. Half the class is student discussion, half the class Lathbury-led discussion.

One discussion management per students, three papers (requirements vary for undergrad and graduate students).

"You must be mad or you wouldn't have come here."
