Visiting Writer: Cheston Knapp

Visiting Writer: Cheston Knapp

Cheston Knapp kicks of the Fall 2018 Visiting Writers series on Thursday, September 27, with a reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Meeting Room G, on Mason’s Fairfax Campus. The reading is free and open to the public, and books will be for sale after the reading.

Knapp is the managing editor of Tin House and the author of Up Up, Down Down, essays which Jim Shepard called, “exhilarating and funny and endlessly smart on dads, fraternities, southerners, drinking games, retribution, tennis, the anxiety of influence, guilt, authenticity, UFO’s, aptronyms, revelation, uncertainty, nostalgia, diversity, identity, skateboarding, and community, and that’s just to start.”

Publishers Weekly praised the book’s “firmly tongue-in-cheek approach to the existential crises of male maturity for the millennial generation” and its “exuberant and sometimes acerbically funny descriptions.”

The full visiting writer series at George Mason University includes more writers in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, including:

  • Marie-Helene Bertino (fiction)—Friday, October 12
  • Jennifer Chang (poetry)—Friday, October 12
  • Jennifer Percy (nonfiction)—Saturday, October 13
  • David Ferry (poetry)—Thursday October 25
  • Liam Callanan (fiction)—Thursday, November 8

Stay tuned to Mason’s creative writing website for more information on each of these events.
