Publishers Weekly Celebrates Alum/Student Andrew Joseph White & New YA Imprint

Andrew Joseph White, BFA ’19 and current MFA student, will have his debut novel, Hell Followed with Us, published in summer 2022 as part of the new imprint Peachtree Teen from Peachtree Publishing Company. Publishers Weekly announced the news on April 29, and described White's novel as "a post-apocalyptic horror novel [that] introduces a 16-year-old transgender boy who has escaped from a fundamentalist cult and teams up with an LGBTQ+ youth center fighting for survival."

"I started writing Hell Followed with Us as an undergraduate at GMU, even finishing the first draft in Fenwick Library as I learned about myself and came into my identity," said White. "I’m so excited to get this angry, radical book into the hands of trans teens who need it."

In the PW article, Peachtree Teen editor Ashley Hearn praised Hell Followed with Us: "This novel is chock full of some of my all-time favorite tropes... It features a queer teen, includes body horror, and explores gender and sexual identity. Andrew has such an incredibly fresh voice and a knack for horror, and we are so pleased to have found him on the ground floor of his career."
