Shannon Pennell, English '11, wins a CHSS Dean's Challenge Award

Shannon Pennell, English '11, wins a CHSS Dean's Challenge Award. Shannon volunteers each week as a peer mentor assisting Mason students with learning disabilities and disorders in successfully completing their pursuit of a degree. Also during her time at Mason, Shannon has written for the campus literary magazine Vox Pop, been a part of the Program Board Film Committee, and completed the Honors Program in the English major as a junior (a program normally only pursued by seniors). Off-campus, she recently went door-to-door working for the Public Interest Research Group trying to foster grassroots support for legislation requiring greater use of alternative fuels.

Pennell is also the winner of the English Department's James L. Jackson Prize. Read the complete list of 2008-2009 English Department award winners.
