Advanced Composition Student Becomes Published Writer

Amy Lane didn't just write an essay for her Advanced Composition (ENGL 302) course.  She got it published.  Students Amy Lanewere asked to write about an event.  Lane wrote about an ultra-marathon she had participated in just before the work was assigned--a 50 km (about 31 mile) run from Sterling to Great Falls, VA.  After writing it, she decided to send the article off to Ultra Running magazine, which published it in its August issue.  Besides getting her a published article, Lane says she appreciated how ENGL 302 helped her appreciate distinct kinds of writing.

When Lane isn't writing, she's running.  She started running when she was in the Marine Corps.  Her most recent run was a trail marathon through the Shenandoah Mountains. Lane broke the woman's course record by 37 minutes.  "I wasn't quite expecting that," Lane comments.

Continued good luck on future runs, Amy, and don't forget to write!
