Submissions Sought for the Alan Cheuse Literary Review

by Anne Reynolds

Last week, George Mason University Professor Alan Cheuse was seriously injured in a car accident while taking part in the annual conference of the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley, California.

Professor Cheuse, who is well known in his role as the book reviewer for National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” remains hospitalized in California. Here at Mason, several of his former students have undertaken a project to “share . . . love and warmth for him in the way he taught us best – through words on the page.”

Nicole Idar and Elizabeth Gutting have established the Alan Cheuse Literary Review, which asks the George Mason community to share fiction, nonfiction, and poetry pieces of 350-500 words in length. They also seek letters directed to the professor, or photos or artwork that would lift his spirits while he recovers from his injuries.

The deadline for submissions is approaching soon; the editors ask that submissions, accompanied by a short biography, be directed to them by Sunday, July 26, at midnight. Send submissions to both Nicole and Elizabeth -- nicoleidar@gmail.com and elizabeth.gutting@gmail.com.

A Facebook page has been established for the Review; its link is noted to the right.
