Writing Across the Curriculum Program Ranked Among The Top Ten in the Country By U.S. News and World Report

George Mason University’s Writing Across the Curriculum Program has been rated as one of the top ten in the country according to U.S. News and World Report. This rating is based on feedback from college presidents, chief academic officers, deans of students, and deans of admissions from more than 1,500 schools. Each was asked to nominate up to 10 institutions.

GMU’s Writing Across the Curriculum Program is designed to encourage students to write in all disciplines, and to encourage more creativity and critical thinking when taking the time to write in all courses. According to the WAC Program website, The program “draws on the concept of the “vertical” curriculum: in the designated composition classes students are asked to reflect on how writing is a form of problem solving in the different communities and disciplines to which they belong. The writing intensive requirement, a course situated in the majors, introduces students more specifically to the writing and problem-solving methods in their chosen fields.” This places the emphasis on writing not just in one course, but throughout all classes.

The WAC Program has been ranked in the top 10 by U.S. News and World Report for the last 14 years.
