FAVS Fall Showcase 2015

December 11 and 12 in the Johnson Center Cinema 

 

The Mason Film Festival was founded in Spring 2013 by SI Films and the Film and Video Studies (FAVS) Program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. This Fall's Showcase features films by video production students, documentary filmmaking students, fiction filmmaking students, graduating Seniors and graduate students from Film and Video Studies. Preflexia, Shawn Leister-Frazier (13 mins)
Jake gets talked into taking "PreFlexia," a mental enhancing drug that should help him get ahead at work. Instead the side effects of PreFlexia cause Jake to reflect on everything and everyone... literally. Trailer

Let’s Talk About It, Stewart Davidson (6 mins). 
 
Hey Kid, Come Back Down to Earth, Dominique Rorie (8 mins). Cinematographer: Kyle Van Dyke, Editor: Edgar Elmore. A dorky kid named Danny falls madly in love with a girl named Mae that he meets in his history class. Suddenly, after a night together under the clouds, he does not hear from her for days. Could his beloved Mae have literally vanished from the face of the Earth? Danny sets forth on a journey for her, where some important messages are revealed to him about love through his encounters with a wacky coffee shop owner, a hobo and his professor, leading him to question his life decisions.

Schedule One: Questioning Cannabis Oil, Patrick O'Connor. (10 mins). Editor: Ian Keyser. A short documentary about a mother who advocates for the advancement of cannabis oil in the State of Virginia. The film explores the medical benefits of cannabis oil and sheds light on marijuana's current status as a Schedule I drug. Trailer.
 
It Was Only September: sample scene, screenplay by Lydette Yonas (3 mins). Cinematographer: Kyle Van Dyke, Editor: Ian Keyser. The feature focuses on Abel, a recent immigrant to the United States, who struggles with school, work, love, and his misconceptions of the American Dream that lead him down a dark path. This scene shows Abel on a date with Saba. Though they share a background, the two have differing viewpoints on how best to assimilate into American culture. Trailer.

Switchers, Ilia Fouladvand (9 mins). Will Spacey comes home one day and discovers a package at his front door with a mysterious black box inside. With one flick of a switch, Will is caught between alternate realities. He finds that while he has an unhappy relationship in one life, the alternate world shows him just how unhappy he could be. We follow his journey back to the love he most wants. Trailer
 
Greetings from Hellscape: Animated series teaser, Cody Brantley (2 mins). 
 
The Right Man at the Wrong Time, Kyle Potell (7 mins).
