ENGH 309 - 001: 21st-Century Young Adult Novels

Love reading YA novels? Curious about the field of Young Adult Literature? Want to know more about 21st-Century trends in YAL? If so, then this is the course for you!

We will read YA novels from the past eleven years, considering their literary qualities and cultural significance. An emphasis will be placed on intersectional identities, including race, gender, sexuality, class, etc.

Through close reading and careful analysis, we will identify literary techniques used in and conventions of 21st-century YA fiction. We will also read YA literary criticism and investigate major issues and debates.
