This course surveys the beginnings of African-American literature with a specific emphasis on black antislavery writings. Authors include Olaudah Equiano, Ottobah Cugoano, David Walker, Maria Stewart, and Mary Prince, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Jacobs.
