The Fall 2026 issue of English Matters, the English Department’s twice-yearly newsletter, celebrates Mason's China 1 + 2 + 1 partnership with Yangzhou University. Fifteen students concluded their two-year study as English Majors in May 2026, and thirty-three students are continuing or beginning their programs this fall. Additionally, the new issue celebrates Guggenheim Fellowships for both a professor and an alum, essays awards for three students, and an honor for a long-time administrative leader. Check out these stories and more in the PDF below—and the archive of recent issues too.

Older issues of English Matters can be found on ISSUU: https://issuu.com/gmuenglish. Our transition in early 2024 from printing and mailing physical issue to producing virtual, magazine-style newsletters has saved significant funds for the Department, allowing us to continue supporting other initiatives and endeavors.

We continue to send out announcements about these issues to graduates of the Department who had registered addresses with Mason’s Alumni Association. If you’d like to receive future newsletters direct to your inbox, please update your contact information at https://alumni.gmu.edu.
