How have digital platforms and streaming media transformed culture? What is new and not so new about the social experiences and industry practices associated with the rise of streaming? This course explores genres and case studies from around world, and media ranging from film, television, gaming and music, but also influencer cultures, livestreaming, platform activism and protest movements, A.I., and the infrastructural bases and ecological consequences of streaming technology. Students will become familiar with a range of critical approaches.

Advanced survey of topics in film and media including theories of production and the circulation of meanings in visual culture. Notes: May be repeated with permission of department. Offered by English. May be repeated within the degree for a maximum 9 credits.

Enrollment is limited to Graduate, Non-Degree or Undergraduate level students.

Students in a Non-Degree Undergraduate degree may not enroll.
