Md Nesar Uddin’s teaching and research span applied linguistics, rhetoric and composition, multilingual writing, second language education and language policy. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Memphis and holds an M.A. in TESOL from Southeast Missouri State University, MA in Technical and Professional Writing from Middle Georgia State University, and an M.A. and B.A. (Honors) in English from the University of Chittagong.
Before joining George Mason, Uddin served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Emory Writing Program at Emory University and taught at the University of Memphis, Southeast Missouri State University, the University of Georgia (UGA), and several international institutions. His teaching experience encompasses first-year composition, multilingual writing, rhetorical composition and critical reading, rhetorical grammar, linguistics, TESOL methodology, and English language instruction. At George Mason, he teaches ENGH 100: Composition for Multilingual Writers.
Uddin’s interdisciplinary research focuses on multilingual writing pedagogy, translanguaging and linguistic justice, corrective feedback and second language acquisition, language policy and English-medium instruction, rhetoric and composition, and antiracist and social justice pedagogies. His recent scholarship examines how pedagogical translanguaging can challenge monolingual ideologies, foster multilingual identities, and develop students’ rhetorical sensibility. His research also investigates corrective feedback in additional-language learning, lexical appropriateness in L2 speech, and the relationship between institutional language policies and classroom practices.
Uddin has presented his research at major professional conferences, including the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) and TESOL International Convention, and has published peer-reviewed scholarship on multilingual writing, translanguaging, corrective feedback, discourse, and language learning.
