Laura Scott

Laura Scott has spent her career shaping the next generation of storytellers at George Mason University. After earning her degree, she joined the English department as an academic coordinator and instructor, where she now teaches fiction writing and guides students as they begin their journeys as novelists.

Though teaching is deeply rewarding, Scott finds her greatest joy in advising—helping students uncover their paths through the major, just as she once did. Her own advisor from Kent State was surprised by her career choice, but Scott has turned that surprise into a legacy of mentorship.

Scott has published five novels and numerous short stories. In spring 2024, she was granted study leave to explore generative techniques for drafting novels—methods she now shares with her students.
