Advisor Assignments

Advisor assignments are made during the admissions process and sent to you in your letter of admission to your program of study.  You are encouraged to speak to your advisor via email or in-person in the department.

Faculty advisors act as guides through your program of study.  They can talk to you about courses when you are preparing to register for courses each semester, independent studies, progress toward degree completion, or recommend other faculty whose area of expertise might serve you well in your own research.  Faculty advisors will ask you to meet with the graduate director regarding exceptions to degree requirements or elective course approval.  Faculty advisors will ask you to speak to the graduate student relations coordinator regarding your foreign language requirement, graduation, program events, and MA theses.

If you need to know who your faculty advisor is and you can't find your letter of admission, contact the graduate admissions coordinator.
