Revising Your Thesis Proposal

Revising Your Thesis Proposal Image

Your committee is set.  The task of writing your proposal becomes real.

Draft a proposal with the help of your director and committee. Work with your director on drafting and refining a proposal, which should combine a sense of the aims of the thesis with a scholarly/related bibliography that in some way supports the project.  The length and style of your proposal are negotiated with your director.

A couple things to remember as you draft your proposal:

  • There is no template for thesis proposals.
  • You can consult with your thesis director about your proposal
  • Proposals usually range from 2-5 pages in length.

Follow the checklist below and the thesis proposal process will be easily accomplished.

Thesis Proposal Checklist:

__ Consult with your thesis director

__ Draft a proposal

__ Revise draft as necessary with thesis director

__ Print a thesis proposal cover sheet

__ Fill out the cover sheet with information specific to your thesis proposal

__ Submit your proposal and cover sheet to the student relations coordinator

__ Send the proposal to your thesis committee members via email and let them know that a hard copy of your proposal is available at the student relations coordinator's desk. In the email ask your committee members to send their approvals to the graduate programs manager.

The student relations coordinator will collect approvals from your committee members, the program director, and the chair of the English Department. When all approvals are in place, the student relations coordinator will send you an email with the CRN so you can register for your first three thesis hours.
